Make things accessible
Make sure that technology procured or developed is accessible and inclusive for users
Accessibility is about making sure your service is accessible to everyone who needs it.
The technology, infrastructure and systems that will be deployed as part of any ICT Project or programme must ensure that any deliverable is accessible for its users.
To adhere to Section 2 of the TCOP the ICT project or programme should record and show its adherence to the applicable standards demonstrating how your deployment is inclusive and accessible.
Making things accessible and inclusive will help your project
Your technology project will benefit from:
- conforming with the IOMG Equality Act 2017
- reading about the new UK accessibility regulations for public sector websites and apps
- making sure your technology will be inclusive, working for as many users as possible
- being assured that all staff members will be able to easily access and use the information and infrastructure needed to do their work, with no barrier to employing people with specific access needs
- recording the range of devices that need to work with your project delivery
How to meet accessibility requirements
Make sure your technology and systems can be used by a diverse set of users.
You can do this by:
- thinking about how users might access and use your service before you design or build anything
- involving users with a wide range of abilities in user testing as technology services and systems are developed
- ensuring that access to the project system or service is available through the standard IOMG web browsers while ensuring compatibility with the IOMG standard assistive technologies
