IOMG Technical Standard: Application Packaging
Isle of Man Government employs 2 principal methods for applications packaging, Application Virtualisation and Windows Installer via SCCM.
Application Virtualisation (App-V) is the preferred approach as this allows the user almost instant access to the application. Updates to the application can also be deployed seamlessly without any need to interrupt workflow.
In the event an application is not compatible with App-V we create a Windows Installer file (.msi) and script the install before deploying through SCCM.
