IOMG Technical Standard: Cloud
The DAB has promoted a “Cloud First” stance towards Cloud services and recognises that as the industry continue to mature services delivered via this medium will continue to grow.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS solutions are varied and diverse. It is generally not possible to select hosting services separately from the software product. The solution must fit the needs and risk profile of the business.
Where a suitable solution is already in use elsewhere within IOMG then the benefits of combining rather than procuring an alternative should be explored. If the current solution on the standard product list is not acceptable then an exception will be required to procure or use an alternative.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
The Microsoft Azure platform is the chosen platform for the hosting of cloud workloads. Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions are an organisation standard and can be utilised where appropriate without further review. All other PaaS solutions should be reviewed by exception.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
The Isle of Man Government has chosen Microsoft Azure as their IaaS platform of choice. The utilisation of any other IaaS provider is by exception.
Function as a Service (FaaS)
Azure Functions is our preferred FaaS service. The utilisation of any other FaaS service is by exception.
